Christmas Fair 2019 and visit of Santa

Friends of Malvern Community Hospital have been busy again this Christmas. On Saturday 30th November 2019 we held our Christmas Fair, this is a joint fund raiser where the ‘Friends’ work together with the hospital staff. There were over 11 stalls with the Raffle, Tombola and Jewellery making the highest profits. We had 2 new stalls – Goats cheese and Christmas decorations both provided by the hospital staff. Overall, we made £1,024.85 and this will be split 50:50 with the hospital. Many thanks to all of you who donated items, the Raffle had over 35 prizes all gifted. We are also grateful to those who turned up on the morning to support us.

Then on Wednesday 18th December 2019 the ‘Friends’ were out and about again, this time with Santa Claus visiting all the patients on the wards of the Community Hospital. Santa was very busy he spoke to every patient and left them with beautifully wrapped Christmas present. The patients were delighted, and the visit was a great success.

Afternoon Tea Party to Open Memorial Garden for our Benefactor Peggy Jones - Saturday 6th July 2019

Much preparation went into Tea Party for the 6th July with cakes, raffle prizes, many helpers, decorated tables and flower arrangements. The garden looked magnificent thanks to Andy Hawker the gardener and our gardening volunteers. Then the party began! It was well supported with 'Friends, trustees, staff, and patients and their relatives all enjoying the spectacle. After a cup of tea and a piece of cake the unveiling of the plaque began. Malvern Well Dressing and Water Festival 4th May – 12th May 2019

In 2019, the Friends Committee were asked by the organisers to dress the well inside the Hospital. Libby, a FoMCH Trustee, was busy and produced an excellent display as can be seen from the photo. The 2019 Festival theme was 'Flight'.

Christmas Fair December 2018

We had an excellent Christmas Fair this year, our stalls were buzzing from the word go. The Grand Draw attracted many and the stall holders were writing names and phone numbers frantically right up to the draw at 11.45am. We had 32 prizes in the end and our thanks to everyone who donated prizes from Nick Grey with the Air-Ram cleaner to an anonymous supporter who came to the stall with a bottle of wine. The draw raised £712.00 in total.
The Dolls House was popular, 68 names were chosen and the winning name was Highfield.
Our stalls were all very busy but notably toiletries took £241 and the ever-popular cake stall raised £165.
We had some tremendous support from members, hospital staff, supporters and the Committee. Items flooded in for the stalls, and with the help of the hospital staff all the stalls were manned adequately. We made £1,646.43 overall. A huge ‘thank you’ to everyone!

Fund raising by James Flann

James Flann presented a cheque for £695 to Libby Winwood and Maureen Williams, committee members of the Friends of Malvern Community Hospital, after completing the Hull Marathon in Yorkshire on 24th September 2017.

James was inspired to raise this money for the hospital which he described as wonderful, because of the care and dedication his father received from all the nursing staff whilst a patient in the hospital. He emphasised how lucky Malvern is to have such a fantastic facility in the Town.

Mad Hatters Tea Party, 3rd September 2017

On Sunday 3rd September 2017 a number of our friends and supporters braved the wet and inclement weather and joined us for our Mad Hatters Tea Party. There was an excellent spread of scones with jam & cream, superb cakes, tea bread and biscuits plus of course the cups of tea! The time passed quickly with lots of eating, drinking, talking and laughter; a good time was had by all! Our Best Bonnet winner was Jean Harnden, and we made £158.18. Many thanks everyone. Summer Fete

The following photographs were taken at the Summer Fete on 15th July 2017. We had luck with the weather, but competition from the Women’s Wimbledon Finals. Never the less we had an excellent afternoon with a steady flow of people supporting our stalls. It was a lovely atmosphere and many sat and chatted with cake and a cup of tea, or strawberries and cream donated by John Davies, S & A Produce based in Hereford. It was good to see Link Nurseries up and running again and they joined us bringing a selection of plants and vegetables. The Co-op Malvern Link supported our raffle with some excellent prizes, as did others resulting in a £438.00 profit. We had a good variety of items for sale on our tables including Sally Baker’s cards for all occasions, Ann Fitzgerald’s textiles, Ice Cream from the Benitos Ice Cream Cart, and these plus a few personal donations helped us raise a total of £1,568.43 at this year’s Summer Fete. As usual the profit will be split equally between the Hospital and our own funds.

We received a generous donation of £771 which had been raised at raffles in memory of one of their respected and well-liked members. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

2017 AGM

The following photographs were taken at the AGM on 17th March. At the AGM we appointed a new Chairman, Julian I’Anson.

Julian was Mayor of Malvern in 2015 and Deputy Mayor the year before. Julian had several meetings with Committee members and a conducted tour of the Community Hospital before he made up his mind to accept our request. At the AGM Julian stated that he was delighted to have been asked to be Chairman of the ‘Friends’, and he was also pleased to join a group of people who were actually doing something positive for the NHS at a time when there is so much negativity associated with it. His nomination was accepted unanimously.

Charities Mini Market Saturday 4th March 2017

The Friends had an excellent morning selling teas, coffees, cakes and jewellery. We made £155.94 in total, there were 4 other charities in the Hall with us so this was a good result.

Viscount Cobham Social Fund

We have received a generous donation of £200.00 from the Viscount Cobham Social Fund.

2016 Christmas Fayre

The following are pictures from the 2016 Christmas Fayre. There was an excellent turnout for the 2016 Christmas Fayre at the Malvern Community Hospital on Saturday 3rd December. The generosity of our supporters enabled us to fill many tables with top class items to win or buy, this together with a very enthusiastic public who turned up to take part helped us raise £1,202 towards our work with the Community Hospital, patients and staff.

Of the total £1,202 the top 3 were – Jewellery at £205, Raffle at £175 and Cakes at £129.
